Picture this! Away Days and Holidays in Northern Ireland
5 March, 2010
Do you remember your away days and holidays in Northern Ireland? Do you remember a favourite vacation spot? Remember the long line-ups on a hot sunny day waiting to buy an ice cream in Newcastle.....?
Canadian artist, Sylvia Grace Borda, in tandem with Belfast Exposed Gallery is proudly leading a community project about holidaying in Northern Ireland. In particular, the artist is seeking holiday snaps from the 1930s-60s taken in Northern Ireland to help inform an upcoming exhibition about holidaying at home in Northern Ireland that will become a significant resource for the public and future generations.
To help in building this project the public is asked to come share and speak about their holiday snaps with the first event being held on Monday, March 8 at the Divis Community Centre between noon and 2pm. The centre is located at 9 Ardmoulin Place Belfast BT12 4RT
Everyone attending the event can choose their favourite photos to be part of a special Belfast Exposed Gallery exhibition. The exhibition is to raise awareness about holidaying at home in Northern Ireland and to inform the public how they can contribute to this legacy!
The artist will be on hand to digitise photographs, and for those interested - can offer advice about handling and ways of storing photo-albums and older photographs.
See you there!
