These exercises are linked to CCEA's GCSE in Geography,
- Theme E - Economic Change and Development, point 1 Economic change creates new opportunities. 1.1 Pupils will have opportunity to study changes in the development of Queen's Island to the Titanic Quarter. (exercise 2)
- Theme F - Settlements and Change, point 3 Planners must strive towards creating sustainable urban environments. Pupils will use the internet to access information on eg. Titanic Quarter (exercise 1 &3)
In its heyday Harland & Wolff was the largest shipyard in the world. Shipbuilding has been a vital economy for Belfast and its decline since the 1960s has had a massive social and economic impact on the community, particularly in east Belfast. Historical, contemporary and art photographs can be used to explore this change.
This material can also be used as background research for the Internally Assessed Fieldwork Investigation.
