About The Exhibition

Belfast Exposed is proud to present The Belfast Exposed Photography Academy Showcase 2022, an exhibition featuring work from young photographers who have completed a creative training in photographic & practical skills and have achieved their Open College Network (OCN) qualifications as part of this year's Academy, funded by Children in Need.

The showcase - which takes place in Gallery I on Wednesday 25th May - comprises of photographs that cover a wide range of subjects, demonstrating how participants' skills have developed in both breadth and depth over the course of the programme, resulting in this eclectic and often thought-provoking show.

Ranging from 14 to 23 years of age, the young people involved are from diverse and wide-ranging backgrounds, including groups from Impact Training in West Belfast, Mitchell House School, East Belfast, the Newtownabbey Arts and Cultural Network, Rathcoole and the Belfast Exposed Tuesday Club, Greater Belfast. All of this work is made possible by funding from Children in Need.

During the Academy programme, participants worked on a variety of skills while also developing their own self-confidence, with many of them moving onto to the Belfast Exposed Young Futures programme. As well as photographic skills & workshops, we provide career development training, capacity-building skills and mental health support to all Academy participants.

‘This has been a very exciting year for Belfast Exposed in developing and delivering the photography Academy has meant we could work in-depth with the young people taking them through the processes of taking great photographs whilst harnessing the potential for gaining qualifications and future career development. The exhibition showcases the real talent our young people have and we are really proud of their achievements and this fantastic exhibition’ – Deridre Robb, CEO

As part of the showcase, Belfast Exposed is also running a drop-in Open Day on Wednesday 25th May for community groups, clubs and individuals interested in our next Photography Academy course, which will start in October 2022. Running through until May 2023, the programme is open to all young people and includes bespoke workshops, training, talks, presentations, and practical & creative skills development, as well as on location workshops and site visits.
