Not Just a Wedding Photographer – Isolation Week 1

Essay from Chris McSherry’s blog

This is a different type of blog post. I have been in self-isolation for 15 days. After 15 days, this morning I received a letter from my GP requesting I stay at home for 12 weeks.

With the terrible and scary situation that is Covid-19, a lot of things are on hold for many of us, including weddings, but couples shouldn’t worry, you will be marrying the one you love! You just have to wait a little bit longer.

I have been very quiet on social media during the unfolding situation, concerned for my own health and family around me. The last thing on my mind was advertising for weddings when the future seemed a tad more uncertain. One thing that has always stayed consistent, is me picking up my camera.

I’m not just picking the camera up for weddings or family sessions. In fact, I’m only putting it down, to eat, sleep and drink, and even then it’s always beside me. I photograph every day, as it’s my passion, I love that this little box can instantly capture a moment in time.

During my time of self Isolation, I’ve been working on a photo project, one that’s keeping me busy, bettering my photography skills and challenging me every day. That’s why I say I’m not just a wedding photographer, the camera doesn’t go into hibernation because I haven’t any weddings during this period. It’s time to document our lives during this global crisis. I’m not just a wedding photographer, I’m a photographer.

Use this time that you have to document your own family because these will make for great images to look back on in years to come and remember the good times during the bad times.

P.S…. This photo was taken during one of my last visits to see my nephews before lock down, and face time became the new normal to ‘‘visit’’ people. Not all humans wear capes or iron suits, they wear scrubs and I hope when this is all over, the Government will show them the respect and support that the rest of us have been showing them all this time.

Below are some photos from my 1st week in isolation. From March 16th – March 22.
