PORTFOLIO
Jacqueline Douglas – Futures Artist

Jacqueline Douglas joined the Belfast Exposed ‘Futures Artists’ programme in 2017 and produced a solo exhibition ‘Complete and Utter Happiness‘. Since then, Jacqueline has exhibited her work throughout the UK.

Jacqueline Douglas completed her MFA in Fine Art at Ulster University in 2016, having previously graduated with a BA Hons Degree in Photography (2013). Her work, which focuses predominately on the family album and its impact on visual memory, has been exhibited throughout Belfast & UK, as part of several photographic collectives including; Belfast Photo Fringe, Cream: A Graduate selection, and the Belfast Photo Factory exhibitions.

Complete and Utter Happiness aims to challenge perceptions and explore the malleable nature of photography through re-appropriation and sculpture. By focusing on the impacting details within second-hand photographs, the work deconstructs the original images through the use of cropping and manipulation. As a result, rendering the final images ambiguous while creating a new narrative between sculpture and viewer in order to emphasise the importance of interpretation over documentation.
