Yvette Monahan – Futures Artist

Yvette Monahan joined the Belfast Exposed ‘Futures Artists’ programme in 2016 and produced a solo exhibition ‘The Thousand Year Old Boy’. Since then, Yvette has gained several awards, residencies and exhibitions.

In recent years, Yvette’s practice has changed from looking at stories held in the landscape to looking at stories held within. Her current practice looks to further her understanding of three main ideas, namely intuition, transcendence, and narrative. She engages with different processes to investigate these precepts, incorporating photography, drawing, sculpture and print-making. Yvette aims to create images that reflect the inner world and outer spaces.

A graduate of the MFA Photography programme at the Belfast School of Art, Yvette’s work has been exhibited extensively. Yvette was one of the winners of the Solas Ireland Award and subsequently exhibited in Dublin, London, and Salzburg. Since showing her work at Belfast Exposed as part of the ‘Futures Artists’ programme, Yvette has been a selected artist at PhotoIreland New Irish Works II, a Futures Talent at Unseen Amsterdam, shortlisted for the Savills Art prize and nominated for the Prix Pictet. Yvette has been invited to take part in TULCA Festival of Arts, Winter Papers Volume 4, PhotoIreland and Lishui Photography festival, China. Yvette has also been selected for residencies at both Joya-Air, Spain and Cowhouse studios, Ireland.
