About The Exhibition

Celebrating a new year, Belfast Exposed is delighted to announce two new exhibitions, a new group exhibition with photographic works selected from Arts Council Northern Ireland Collection, curated by Deirdre Robb, and a solo exhibition of Belfast Exposed Futures Artist Linda Conroy, Breaking the Mould.

Curating the Arts Council of Northern Ireland exhibition, Deirdre Robb was inspired by the wealth of photographic works in the collection. They wanted to ensure the photography on show was reflective of the breadth, diversity and talent that Northern Ireland excels in, in photographic terms locally, nationally and internationally.

There promises to be something for everyone, including a range of emerging and established artists and deals with topics such as life and death, domesticity and feminism, war and colonialism, as well as urban scenes and landscapes.

There are 20 artists on show including renowned artists Paul Seawright, Donavan Wylie, Susan MacWilliam, Peter Richards, Ailbhe Greaney, Fergus Jordan, Laura McDowell, and Joanna Karolini. It also includes 3 video works from Mairead McClean, Adrian O’Connell and Angela Halliday.

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland is delighted to have works from our contemporary art collection exhibited at Belfast Exposed.  This exhibition is part of our Art Lending Scheme, an opportunity open to curators, museums and galleries to exhibit works from our collection free of charge.  Many of the artists represented in the Arts Council’s contemporary art collection have major national and international reputations and by offering the collection for public display, we are helping to showcase the work of our artists and to introduce the public to Northern Ireland’s wealth of creative talent.  I would encourage everyone to go along and see this exhibition at Belfast Exposed which promises to be an impressive mix of emerging and established artists.” - Suzanne Lyle, Head of Visual Arts, Arts Council of Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland is home to some of the best photographers in the world. By hosting a selection of the work in our gallery, it allows us to celebrate the artists and acknowledges the contribution they make to the field of photography in a local and global context.” - Deirdre Robb, Chief Executive, Belfast Exposed
