About The Exhibition

Jan McCullough is the most recent artist to take part in the Belfast Exposed Futures Programme.

Home Instruction Manual is a project that developed from the artist’s interest in the instruction manual as both a concept and an aesthetic. For this new work the artist typed ‘how to make a home’ into Google, and was directed to an online chat forum in which self-described experts were exchanging detailed instructions. She rented a house and carried out the strangers’ advice exactly over the period of two months. The photographs in the series document the end result of her time living and working in the house.
