Human Condition

Gallery 2

2nd Sep 2020 to 16th Oct 2020

About The Exhibition

Belfast Exposed is delighted to present Human Condition, a graduate show highlighting recent graduates from the BA in Photography and Video at Ulster University, curated by Deirdre Robb. The works presented are a broad exploration of human existence plunging into topics from water quality to fluid gender expression and roles. Further observations on mental health spanning youth to retirement, isolation, healing, and recreational space.

Practices range from self-portraiture to alternative development processes and include video, music, sculpture, and installation. The featured artists illuminate a raw and thought-provoking insight into human perception, environment, and ancestry comprising the human condition.

The work will be accompanied by a series of artist talks and during Good Relations week, we will host artist talks discussing sectarianism, racism, human rights, physical and mental abuse, which are raised within the show. This will be our first exhibition since lockdown and will be developed and managed in line with COVID-19 guidelines.

The exhibition is part of a partnership with the MAC (Metropolitan Arts Centre) highlighting recent graduates from various BA and MFA programmes from Ulster University - "Celebrating a new generation of artists across all three of their galleries, the MAC is pleased to present a selection of work by the class of 2020. Pre-book your ticket at themaclive.com."

“The works in this exhibition represent the wide range of approaches to the photographic medium that are presented through the BA in Photography and Video course at Ulster University. The graduates who are participating in the exhibition explored common concepts such as identity, mental health and climate change through unique perspectives and forms.”   - Haley Morris-Cafiero, Photographer & Lecturer, Ulster University

“It has never been a more important time for Belfast Exposed to support and forefront emerging artists. Not only to enable career development but because their work is vital for the progress and betterment of society. Partnership with local organisations like Ulster University and the MAC is imperative to furthering that support.”  - Deirdre Robb, Chief Executive, Belfast Exposed
