Oranges and Satellites

Description

In Marrakech we noticed two persistent characteristics in the medina that kept presenting themselves on every street and corner, that being the colour orange and satellite dishes on top of every building.

While Morocco is known for its produce of oranges with the tangerine being named after the city of Tangier, satellite dishes seemed out of place in a town that looks almost medieval

Satellites atop every building are the only sign that Marrakech has been touched by technology, the satellites allow people in Marrakech to be more in touch with the western world, which is apparent through the obvious cultural gap between the young and old.

Soon after being back in Belfast we learned that there were talks of the French mobile network Orange taking over the current Meditel network in Morocco. This connection creates a playful narrative between these elements and both our images.
