For this edition of Paper Visual Art Journal we decided to consider an aspect of life that has, over the last eighteen months or so, entered into the strangest sort of flux – touch.
We invited a range of artists, writers, and a sportsperson to give a sense of what ‘touch’ means in their field of study, work, life. We attempted to look at extremes of touch from the violent to the gentle, from broad to detailed, from human to robotic. What became apparent as this publication came together is that both the idea and the feeling of touch are difficult to elucidate – an adequate description always seems out of reach. We thank each contributor for their fascinating attempts.
In this edition we also include two reviews of recent exhibitions and a review of an artist’s book. Continuing our now regular segment, where a writer more associated with the world of literature responds to a public artwork in Ireland, we invited author Niamh Campbell to select and write on a work of her choice.
Since our last edition, Paper Visual Art Journal has published three books and wholly redeveloped our website. We would like to thank the Arts Council for their support in all of these endeavours. We look forward to publishing further books, regular writing about art on our website, and our next edition of PA before year’s end. We then hope to continue producing high-quality journals and books through 2022 and beyond.

We hope you have stayed healthy and well over the last year, and we look forward to seeing some of you again soon, now that the clouds are – we hope – beginning to clear.
