Navigating Queer Landscapes

We are delighted to be working with the Queer Artist Forum to bring the work of two of its members to Embrace Style, the inclusive hair and beauty salon in east Belfast. Artists Vesper MacKenzie and Aidan Geary have very different yet complimentary perspectives, and this mini showcase reflects the talent in the Queer Artist Forum, a platform for lens-based visual artists from the LGBTQIA+ community to provide support, development and discussion. The Forum meets monthly at Belfast Exposed.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Vesper MacKenzie (she/her) is a trans artist based in Northern Ireland. Her work explores themes of the gaze and surveillance as means of exercising control over queer people. Vesper is currently studying for her BA in Photography with Video at the Belfast School of Art.   Originally from Dublin, Aidan Geary spent many years living in London and is now based in Belfast. He is studying for an MFA in Photography at the Belfast School of Art. His practice explores human intervention on, and interpretation of the natural landscape, and uses images of the land to examine perception and looking, politics, and identity. While primarily using photography, digital media is also part of his working method. Aidan previously studied multimedia systems at Trinity College Dublin, and has a background in digital media and television.
