BIEN: Why is identity so difficult?

As part of the BIEN Project series of free events, Professor Dominic Bryan will discuss how rituals and symbols expressed in the public space can both divide and unite, whether these are flags, parades, or even a pint of Guinness.

In addition, he will consider the challenges faced by those seeking to legislate for inclusion in a post-conflict society.

Dominic is a Professor in the school of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics at Queen’s University Belfast and is the former co-Chair of the Commission for Flags, Identity and Cultural Tradition.
